A man who is already accused of murdering former politician Ann Widdecombe has now been charged with allegedly preparing a terrorist act involving Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.

Joshua Kerry, 28, has been charged with one count of engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism. Counter Terrorism Policing said the allegations include activity involving Nigel Farage MP.

Kerry, from Byrley Road in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was formally charged on Friday, October 2, following authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service.

The terrorism charge was brought under Section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006. Police say the alleged activity took place over a period of more than two years, between May 31, 2024 and July 8, 2026.

Kerry is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 7, 2026, where the terrorism charge will be dealt with as part of the legal process.

The 28-year-old is also facing a separate and extremely serious murder charge. He is accused of killing Ann Widdecombe, who was reportedly found dead at her home in Devon in July. She was allegedly bludgeoned to death.

Authorities have stressed that the counter-terrorism investigation has been extensive and has involved officers and specialists working across several different areas.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans, Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, said investigators had been carrying out an intensive and complicated investigation for some time.

She said the new charge followed extensive work by investigators from across the Counter Terrorism Policing network.

According to Evans, a dedicated team of detectives, analysts and forensic specialists worked on several lines of enquiry before the decision was made to bring the terrorism charge.

Counter Terrorism Policing confirmed that Kerry is accused of preparing acts of terrorism, including alleged activity involving Nigel Farage.

Police said the charge followed authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service and relates specifically to alleged conduct between May 31, 2024 and July 8, 2026.

The allegations against Kerry have not yet been proven in court. He remains accused of the offences and the criminal proceedings will determine the outcome of the charges.
