People are calling for Trump’s impeachment after he makes ‘evil’ announcement about police rights

Donald Trump has announced that for the next 30 days, the National Guard will be patrolling the streets of Washington, D.C. His decision comes after a meeting with officials where he said he wanted to make the capital “safer and more beautiful.” He claimed the city has been overrun with crime, homelessness, and filth, and ordered that homeless people be removed immediately. Trump posted online that before all of this, Washington was “the most beautiful capital in the world” and that it will be that way again soon.
Critics had feared he would take military-style action like he did in Los Angeles recently, and now those fears have been confirmed. He declared a “public safety emergency,” calling D.C. a “sanctuary for illegal alien criminals” and “one of the most dangerous cities in the world,” with homicide rates that he said were higher than cities such as Bogotá or Mexico City. This claim doesn’t match official statistics, which actually show violent crime in D.C. at a 30-year low.
Trump said he is taking over control of the D.C. Metropolitan Police under a section of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act. He also gave police what he described as the freedom to “do whatever the hell they want” when faced with hostility, claiming that criminals “only understand” force. He described situations where police are spat on and argued that now officers will be allowed to respond as they see fit.
The mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser, said the move was “unsettling and unprecedented,” but not entirely surprising given Trump’s previous comments. Many people online reacted with outrage, calling the decision dangerous and accusing him of creating a “police state.” Some said it sets the stage for violent crackdowns and pointed out that no one has ever told police they must allow citizens to spit on them, suggesting Trump is using this as an excuse to escalate force.
Trump insists the move is necessary to rescue the capital from “crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor,” calling it “liberation day in D.C.” Around 800 National Guard members will be deployed during the 30-day period.
This announcement comes while a court in San Francisco is reviewing whether Trump acted illegally in June when he sent the National Guard to Los Angeles to respond to immigration protests—something he did without the state governor’s approval, which hasn’t happened in 60 years. California officials argue that deploying the military to enforce domestic law without consent violates core principles of the nation’s founding, while the Trump administration insists the move was legal under federal statutes.
