Migrants Set Up Camp, Defecate in Public, and Beg for Cash While Police Watch in London (Video)

A group of migrants has set up an illegal camp in one of the wealthiest parts of London, and it’s upsetting both residents and tourists. The camp is on Park Lane, a famous street known for its expensive hotels and restaurants.
Around 19 tents are scattered on a grassy area, just steps away from luxury buildings. The people staying there say they came to London through Italy but are originally from Romania.
They admitted they don’t have jobs and are living on public land without any official permission, while police officers do nothing to move them.
Photos show the camp residents doing everyday things like hanging their clothes to dry, cooking food, and eating on makeshift tables set up on the grass. Witnesses have also seen some shocking behavior. One woman was seen defecating in public, right on the grass, in full view of others.

Another witness said people were drinking alcohol as early as 6 a.m. One of the residents even asked a reporter for £50 through a bank transfer.
A woman named Diana, who is staying at the camp, told the Daily Express that they survive by begging, not stealing, because stealing leads to problems. She said they’ve been in London for over two years, don’t speak English, but do speak Italian and are hoping to find cleaning jobs.

Even though they don’t have legal housing, jobs, or permission to camp there, Diana claims police officers from Transport for London (TfL) come by every day but do nothing to remove them. Instead, she says the officers just check that they have food and water and leave.

When asked whether Westminster Council had offered to help or tried to move them elsewhere, the answer was simply, “No. Council no help.”
Diana also revealed that she paid £2,000 to get to the UK. Her journey started in Libya on a large wooden boat that picked up people in Italy and France before finally bringing them to England.

The camp, sitting in one of London’s most exclusive areas, has raised serious concerns about immigration, homelessness, and the impact on public services. Despite complaints from locals and nearby businesses, the group is still there, with no sign they will leave anytime soon.
A spokesperson from Westminster City Council said Park Lane’s central reservation is not safe for people to live on, and they’re worried about the well-being of those sleeping there.
They added that there are many complicated reasons why people end up living on the streets, including mental health problems or disabilities.
The council said it is working with TfL, which manages the site, to take legal action and provide help to those affected, so they can move into proper accommodation. The goal, according to the spokesperson, is to find a safe, long-term solution as soon as possible.
