Teen Girl on Phone Suddenly Pushed in Front of Train by Rejected Asylum Seeker — What Her Grandfather Heard Will Shock You

A 16-year-old girl was on the phone with her grandfather, having what should have been a normal conversation, not knowing it would be the last moments of her life. Suddenly, everything changed. While still speaking to him, she was pushed onto the railway tracks just as a fast-moving freight train was approaching. Her grandfather, still connected to the call, heard her scream in fear, and then the terrifying sound of the train. There was nothing he could do, and those final moments have left a deep emotional scar.
The girl, Liana K, had come from Ukraine and was still very young, with her whole life ahead of her. She had dreams and plans, just like any teenager. Only two months earlier, she had started training to become a dental assistant, taking her first steps toward building a future for herself. Her life was suddenly cut short in a brutal and shocking way.
The attack happened in a quiet town called Geisleden in Germany on August 11 last year. There were no witnesses around at the exact moment it happened, and there was no CCTV footage to clearly show what took place. Despite this, investigators were able to link a 31-year-old man, Muhammed A from Iraq, to the crime using DNA evidence. Traces found on Liana’s shoulder placed him at the scene, which prosecutors said strongly connected him to the attack.
Even with this evidence, the case took a different turn in court. Medical experts said the man suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, a serious mental illness that affects how a person thinks and understands reality. Because of this, the court ruled that he was not mentally responsible for his actions at the time of the attack. This meant he would not face a normal murder trial or be sentenced to prison. Instead, he has been ordered to stay in a secure psychiatric hospital, where he will be treated and monitored.
The train that hit Liana was travelling at about 100 kilometres per hour, which is around 62 miles per hour. At that speed, there was no chance for her to escape once she was pushed onto the tracks. The mayor of the town spoke about how heartbreaking the situation was, especially knowing that her grandfather had to hear everything happen live over the phone. The pain of hearing a loved one in their final moments like that is something that is hard to imagine.
During the court hearings, the man accused of the attack remained mostly silent. He did not respond to the accusations or show any visible emotion. People who were present in the courtroom said he did not show remorse, even while Liana’s mother sat there, grieving the loss of her daughter. Instead of addressing what happened, he complained about how emergency workers handled him after the incident, saying he was mistreated when they restrained him.
His defence team argued that there was not enough clear evidence to prove he committed the crime beyond doubt. On the other side, the lawyer representing Liana’s family strongly pushed for a murder conviction, saying justice needed to be done. However, the court’s decision was based mainly on his mental health condition, which changed the outcome of the case.
Looking into his background, the man had arrived in Germany in 2022 and applied for asylum, but his request was denied. Not long before the attack, he had been in custody in the city of Hanover and was waiting to be transferred to Lithuania. For reasons that were not fully explained, that transfer did not happen, and he was released back into the public. Just three weeks after being released, the deadly attack on Liana took place.
Even more concerning is what happened just one day before the incident. Reports say he admitted himself into a clinic in Göttingen, possibly seeking help. However, he left the clinic against the advice of doctors. Shortly after leaving, he carried out the attack. This has raised serious questions about whether more could have been done to prevent what happened.
Liana’s mother has spoken openly about her pain and frustration. She described her daughter as a young girl full of hope, with clear goals for her future. Losing her in such a violent way has been devastating. At first, she believed that the person responsible would face proper punishment. But now, she fears that because of the mental illness ruling, he may never face real justice in the way she expected.
She also shared her worry about what could happen in the future. She fears that after spending time in a psychiatric hospital and possibly being declared stable, he could be released back into society. Her concern is that he may not feel any guilt or remorse for what he has done, and that there is a risk something like this could happen again.
The case has left many people shocked and deeply saddened. It has also raised difficult questions about mental health, public safety, and the justice system. For Liana’s family, however, the biggest loss is personal. A young life full of promise has been taken away in a moment of violence, leaving behind grief, unanswered questions, and a pain that will not easily fade.
