Stephen Colbert Pounces On Donald Trump’s Awkward Comment About His Son Eric

79views

Stephen Colbert couldn’t help but laugh at a slightly uncomfortable moment involving Donald Trump and his son Eric Trump during a recent episode of “The Late Show.”

The moment came after Trump spoke at the annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon on St. Patrick’s Day. While talking about his business interests, he proudly mentioned a golf course he owns in Ireland. He explained that the property is part of the Trump Organization and that his son Eric plays a big role in running it.

But then things took an odd turn.

While trying to make it clear that he doesn’t personally manage the business anymore, Trump said something that sounded a bit harsh. He told the audience that even though he owns the golf course, he’s not involved in its day-to-day operations — and then added, almost casually, that he doesn’t even like to talk to his son.

That line quickly stood out.

Stephen Colbert picked up on it right away during his show. He joked that Eric basically got hit with an unexpected insult from his own father, even though the comment wasn’t really necessary to make the point.

Colbert then took things further by acting out a funny imaginary scene. He pretended to be Eric Trump leaving a desperate voicemail for his dad. In the joke, “Eric” calls repeatedly, trying to give updates about the golf course but also sounding a bit ignored and helpless. He even jokes about being stuck in a sand trap on the course, saying the more he struggles, the worse it gets, while still begging his dad to call him back.

The whole bit was meant to highlight how strange and awkward Trump’s comment sounded, especially coming from a father talking about his own son in a public speech.

In the end, what might have been just a passing remark turned into a viral comedic moment, with Colbert using it to poke fun at the relationship and the way Trump sometimes speaks without thinking about how it comes across.
