Good Morning Britain hosts shared news about a plane crash in Washington DC, shocking viewers.

During the live broadcast on Thursday, January 30, Kate Garraway interrupted the show to report breaking news about a tragic mid-air collision. A passenger jet from American Airlines crashed into a US Army Black Hawk helicopter, causing both aircraft to fall into the Potomac River.

Kate explained that the plane had 60 passengers and 4 crew members, while the helicopter carried three US Army soldiers. Richard Madeley then added that the crash happened near Washington Ronald Reagan Airport, and rescue teams were searching the river. So far, 18 bodies had been found, but no survivors.

As live footage from Washington appeared on screen, GMB’s North America correspondent Noel Phillips joined from New York with more updates.

Viewers reacted emotionally online, many sharing crying emojis and expressing shock. One person on X (formerly Twitter) said that no one could have survived due to the explosion and freezing water. Another reflected on how fragile life is, hoping there might be survivors.

Former President Donald Trump was informed of the crash and thanked emergency workers for their efforts. On his platform, Truth Social, he called it a “terrible accident” and questioned whether it could have been prevented.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6 am on ITV and ITVX.
