Illegal Migrants Coming To The Uk, Should Be Sent to Camps on Remote UK Island, MP Rupert Lowe Suggests
Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe has urged the government to declare a “national emergency” over illegal migration, calling for strict measures to remove people living in the UK unlawfully. Speaking on GB News, he advocated a tough stance, comparing it to actions taken in the United States.
“We need to declare a national emergency, like Trump has done, and make difficult decisions to deport those here illegally,” Lowe said.
Lowe criticized the Labour Government’s handling of immigration, accusing the Prime Minister of being deeply involved in the crisis. He suggested housing illegal migrants in basic “tented camps” on remote UK islands to discourage illegal entry. “Put them on a West Coast island with minimal resources, so they return and apply legally,” he proposed.
A report by Thames Water, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, revealed that around one in 12 Londoners, or up to 585,000 people, may be living in the capital illegally. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp described these findings as “deeply alarming.”
Lowe claimed most illegal arrivals are economic migrants rather than genuine asylum seekers. He criticized the immigration system for being too reliant on applicants’ personal accounts and expressed concern over the potential for illegal migrants to gain voting rights after six years in the UK.
He pointed to Australia’s approach as a solution, highlighting their success in deterring illegal boat crossings. “The Australians stop the boats, and people realize it’s pointless to spend money trying to get there,” he said.
Lowe also called for Britain to leave certain international treaties, including beyond the ECHR, to regain full control over its borders.
A Home Office spokesperson responded, emphasizing the government’s efforts to address the issue. “We are strengthening global partnerships and cracking down on criminal gangs behind small boat crossings. In the last six months, we have removed 16,400 illegal migrants—the highest number in five years,” they said.
