Donald Trump row erupts on BBC Laura Kuenssberg as Piers Morgan rages ‘That’s the reality’

BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg got heated as TV star Piers Morgan clashed with journalist Christiane Amanpour over Donald Trump. As the panel discussed Trump’s involvement in the Ukraine-Russia war following his heated exchange with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, Laura suggested: “Maybe then some world leaders just misunderstand Trump.”

Amanpour replied: “We know he’s a businessman, I told you on your first show, it will be all transactional all the time. The former minister of defence say, it is extortion,” as she referenced to Britain paying back the US for help during WWII in 2006.

Morgan jumped in: “We’ve got to think of the big picture, that’s why I liked what the Prime Minister was saying, this is about getting peace in Ukraine, everyone knows this war is at a stalemate, nothing has happened on the battlefield for the last eight, nine months apart from people being killed, there is no real change in territory, it seems clear to me that they’re going to allow Russia to allow the majority they’ve taken, that sticks in my gullet, but that is where we are in the reality of this war.

“Trump wants peace if he does a transactional business deal. A lot of Americans do not like the continued of support of billions of US dollars during a cost of living crisis.”

Amanpour quickly chimed in: “It is all being ploughed back into the US economy, excuse me, the Defence Secretary says it is a load of old stock sent to Ukraine, it is good for America,” as Piers rushed to cut her off.

He hit back: “Okay but if it brings peace, why is it wrong but then it is also good for America,” as Amanpour responded: “Peace is great, but the question is on whose terms? Everything we’ve heard from Trump is that it is on Putin’s terms, will Putin agree to a coalition?”
