Donald Trump Flat-Out Busted Telling One Of His ‘Most Ludicrous Lies’ Of All Time

Donald Trump has again claimed that he would have won California if the state’s election system had been fair. However, the election results show that he lost the state by millions of votes in each of his three presidential campaigns.

Speaking on Wednesday, Trump described California’s voting system as “crooked” and said an honest election would have produced a Republican victory. He pointed to the millions of votes he received as a reason to believe he should have won the state.

Trump has made similar claims before. His argument is that problems with California’s election system prevented him from winning. However, the report provides no evidence that wrongdoing changed the outcome or took a victory away from him.

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale challenged Trump’s comments in a post on X. He pointed out that the president’s losses in California were large, with millions of votes separating him from the winning Democratic candidates.

In 2016, Trump lost California by around 30 percentage points, finishing more than four million votes behind Hillary Clinton. In 2020, he lost to Joe Biden by about 29 percentage points, a gap of more than five million votes.

Trump did better in California in 2024, but he still lost the state by around 20 percentage points. More than three million votes separated him from the winning candidate. His improved result reduced the gap, but it did not bring him close to winning.

These figures help explain why his latest comments have faced criticism. Receiving millions of votes shows that Trump has a large number of supporters in California. But a candidate must receive more votes than their opponents to win. A large vote total alone does not show that the result was wrong.

California has also favoured Democratic presidential candidates for many years. The last Republican presidential candidate to win the state was George H.W. Bush in 1988. That history shows that Republican difficulties in California began long before Trump entered presidential politics.

The report also points to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s victory in the 2006 governor’s election as the last Republican win in a major statewide contest. Republicans have struggled to repeat that success, despite continuing to have supporters across the state.

Trump has often blamed voting by post for election results he disputes. California makes widespread use of mail-in ballots, and he has repeatedly suggested that this system works against him and other Republicans.

However, his criticism of postal voting has also attracted attention because he has used the same method himself. The report notes that Trump has voted by mail while continuing to question its use in elections.

Dale strongly criticised the president’s latest claim, saying the size of his past defeats made it especially difficult to defend. The election figures he cited show losses across three separate campaigns, rather than one unusually close result.

Trump’s comments repeat an argument he has made several times, but repeating it does not provide evidence that he actually won California. His support in the state grew in 2024, yet the recorded result still showed a clear defeat. The figures presented in the report do not support his claim that an unfair voting system cost him the state.
