Burglar breaks into woman’s home, completes chores, and leaves a two-word note

A court was told how Damian Wojnilowicz, 36, entered a woman’s house after she went to work. Instead of stealing things, he did chores around the house, including cooking a meal for himself.

Wojnilowicz, who is now serving a 22-month sentence, committed a strange burglary. He not only cooked and drank wine but also hung the woman’s laundry, fed birds in the garden, and rearranged her plants. He even left a note saying, “Don’t worry, be happy.”

The prosecutor, Alice Sykes, mentioned that this was a very unusual burglary. The woman’s neighbor had seen someone hanging laundry outside. Wojnilowicz also cleaned floors, took out the recycling, put away groceries, and reorganized things in the house.

Two weeks later, he did something similar at another home in Newport. This time, he washed his clothes and waited for them to dry while eating the homeowner’s food. However, this house had security cameras, and the owners saw everything on their phones while stuck in traffic. They alerted a family member, who confronted Wojnilowicz, and he was arrested.

During the police interview, Wojnilowicz made sarcastic remarks. One of his victims said she lived in fear for two weeks after the incident and had to install an alarm. The second victim said they felt “sick and useless” because of the burglary.

Wojnilowicz admitted to both burglaries. His lawyer said he felt sorry for what he had done and apologized to the victims. The judge sentenced him to 22 months, saying his actions were a serious invasion of privacy and a threat to the public.
