Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has dismissed the significance of Britain, the EU, and France in the ongoing peace talks regarding the war in Ukraine, suggesting that only Russia and the US are the key players.

Medvedev, who currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the Russian Security Council, made the comments following a 90-minute phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. During the call, the two leaders reportedly agreed to a 30-day pause in attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and energy plants.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev wrote: “The phone call between Presidents Putin and Trump proved a well-known idea – there is only Russia and America in the dining room.

He went on to mock European nations, referring to them as mere “appetisers” on the menu, while implying that Ukraine is the “main course.” Medvedev’s post read: “On the menu: light appetisers – Brussels sprouts, British fish and chips and Paris rooster. The main course is a Kiev-style cutlet. Enjoy your meal!”

Medvedev’s comments underscore Russia’s perception of the US as the primary negotiating partner in resolving the Ukraine conflict, while downplaying the role of European nations.

His remarks also reflect the ongoing tensions between Russia and Western countries, particularly as the war in Ukraine continues to destabilize the region. The call between Putin and Trump has raised questions about the future of international diplomacy in the conflict, with Medvedev’s taunts highlighting the complex dynamics at play.
