Lee Anderson, a member of Parliament (MP) from Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, has sent a direct and bold message to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. This comes after Reform UK, a political party, reached over 200,000 members. Anderson warned the Prime Minister, saying, “We’re coming for you.”
Anderson didn’t hold back when he shared his thoughts on social media after his party hit this big milestone on Sunday. First, he posted on X (formerly Twitter): “The fastest-growing political party in the history of the UK. Just let that sink in.”
Then, he shared a post from Reform UK’s leader, Nigel Farage, showing the moment the party’s membership number crossed 200,000. Anderson added, “We’re coming for you @UKLabour. Join the People’s Army today.”
Nigel Farage also shared a similar message, posting: “We are coming for your membership total @UKLabour.”
At a regional conference in Wiltshire, Farage told the audience that Labour’s current membership is around 309,000. He called his own party’s growth “truly extraordinary.”
Reform UK is the new name for the Brexit Party, which was started in 2019 by Nigel Farage. The Brexit Party was created to push the UK government to complete Brexit, the process of leaving the European Union. After Brexit was finalized, the party changed its name to Reform UK and shifted its focus to other issues like immigration, taxes, and environmental policies (such as net-zero goals).
In the July 2024 general election, Reform UK made a big impact by winning five seats in the House of Commons (the UK’s main law-making body). Nigel Farage, who came back to politics to lead Reform UK, was elected as the MP for Clacton. This was his first successful election to Parliament after failing seven times before.
Other Reform UK MPs elected included Richard Tice, the party’s chairman, and Lee Anderson, who had previously been elected as a member of the Conservative Party.
Since the election, Reform UK has been doing very well in opinion polls. A poll by FindOutNow on February 5 showed the party at 29% support, which was 4 points ahead of Labour. Another poll by YouGov, released two days earlier, showed Reform UK leading by 1 point.
