20-Year-Old Man Who Has Been Living Illegally in the UK Arrested After Police Stopped His Car and Found What He Was Carrying Inside
A 20-year-old man who was living illegally in the UK has been sent to prison after police found cocaine and hundreds of pounds in cash inside his Mercedes.
Redion Dervishi was stopped by police while driving through Stratford, Warwickshire, on July 15, 2026. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered 22 separate bags containing cocaine, along with around £800 in cash.
Warwick Crown Court heard that the cocaine weighed between 12 and 13 grams in total. Prosecutor David Jackson told the court that the drugs were estimated to have a street value of between £700 and £800.
Dervishi admitted that he used cocaine himself. He also told authorities that he had been selling drugs as a way of getting money to pay for his own drug habit.
The court heard that Dervishi had been living in the UK without legal immigration status. His defence lawyer, Tony Stanford, said the young man had originally come to Britain hoping to improve his life and create better opportunities for himself.
However, Dervishi became involved in drug dealing and was eventually caught after police stopped his Mercedes in Stratford.
He later pleaded guilty to possession of drugs with intent to supply.
Dervishi, of Mitcham Road in London, appeared at Warwick Crown Court for sentencing and was jailed for 58 weeks on September 14.
The court was told that he is expected to serve around half of the prison sentence in custody before becoming eligible for release.
However, his immigration status means his future in the UK could also be affected after his prison sentence.
His Honour Judge Walsh said Dervishi is likely to be deported from the UK, meaning he could face removal from the country after serving the required part of his sentence.
The case brings together both criminal and immigration issues, with Dervishi now facing a prison sentence as well as the possibility of being removed from Britain once his time in custody comes to an end.
