People Think My Filipino Wife Is My Maid’: Man Reveals He Spent £15,600 To Bring His Wife To America

Evan, an American man, met Stephanie, a woman from the Philippines, on a dating app after she adjusted her location to the U.S. Their connection was instant, and within weeks, Evan felt certain she was the one.

Determined to meet her in person, he traveled to the Philippines, spending thousands on three trips before finally starting a life with Stephanie in America. In total, Evan invested approximately £15,600 ($20,000) into their relationship, covering travel, visa costs, and other essentials.

While their love story inspired some, it also attracted criticism. Detractors online accused Stephanie of using Evan for financial gain, questioning the authenticity of their relationship.

Others suggested Evan had “bought” a bride. Yet, both Evan and Stephanie firmly defended their bond, calling it normal and deeply rooted in mutual love and respect.

Their romance, as they revealed in Truly’s Love Don’t Judge series, began on a Filipino dating app. Evan joined out of curiosity but quickly grew close to Stephanie.

Just three weeks into chatting, he was convinced she was the one and flew to meet her. His trips were costly—each visit to the Philippines cost roughly £3,900 ($5,000)—but he believed it was worth it. Stephanie, too, saw their relationship as official from the moment Evan landed in her country.

Initially, Evan’s mother, Susan, expressed concerns about how quickly the relationship progressed. She was also uneasy about their secret elopement.

However, as she observed their connection over time, her doubts faded. Eventually, Susan became one of their strongest supporters, recognizing the genuine love they shared.

The couple documented their life together on TikTok, which brought them both praise and criticism.

Some commenters accused Stephanie of exploiting Evan, with harsh remarks questioning her intentions.

Stephanie dismissed these claims, emphasizing that she contributed to the relationship by managing household chores like cooking, cleaning, and laundry. To her, these were simply part of a normal partnership.

Evan also responded to the backlash, often laughing with Stephanie about perceptions that she was “out of his league.” He credited her with improving his social confidence and bringing joy into his life, while Stephanie appreciated how Evan boosted her self-esteem and supported her dreams.

Supporters of the couple pointed out that the money Evan spent wasn’t on Stephanie herself but on practical expenses like flights, visas, and travel. Many praised the couple for their compatibility and mutual respect, dismissing the idea that Evan “bought” a wife. For Evan and Stephanie, their relationship remains a testament to love that transcends borders, despite the challenges they face.
