A tragic event unfolded in Iowa on Friday, November 1. Ruth Robison, a 45-year-old mother, was fatally shot, and her husband, Tony Ray Robison, was left critically injured. This happened while they were helping their daughter, Jasmyne, move out of her ex-boyfriend’s home after a recent breakup.

Des Moines police responded to reports of gunshots at a residence on NW 51st Place around 5:24 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Ruth and Tony both with gunshot wounds to their heads.

According to Captain Ryan Evans of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged shooter was Hamza Smajlovic, Jasmyne’s ex-boyfriend, who reportedly used a 9mm pistol in the attack.

The couple was quickly taken to the hospital, but sadly, Ruth did not survive. Tony remains in critical condition, fighting for his life. Authorities arrested Smajlovic, a 24-year-old man, and he now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and intimidation with a weapon.

“This is a tragic situation where a woman’s attempt to leave a relationship ended in her mother’s death and a critical injury to her father,” said Captain Evans.

According to reports, Jasmyne had recently ended her relationship with Smajlovic, and her parents were there to help her gather her belongings. In a moment of violence, Smajlovic allegedly shot both Ruth and Tony.

Smajlovic is currently in Polk County Jail on a $750,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 12, and it’s not yet clear if he has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
