The Met Office has warned that heavy rain will affect several parts of the UK, with a 16-hour weather alert now in place.
A yellow warning has been issued for Scotland, particularly in Dumfries and Galloway, starting from 9 PM tonight until 1 PM on Tuesday. This means people in those areas should expect wet conditions and possible disruptions.
According to the National Weather Agency, the rain will start late Monday night and continue through Tuesday morning. Some places will see about 30mm of rain, while higher areas could get between 40mm and 60mm. The rain will gradually clear from the west by Tuesday afternoon.
The heavy rain might cause flooding in some areas and could lead to delays on the roads and public transport. The Met Office has warned that bus and train services may be disrupted, with travel times taking longer than usual. Roads could also become wet and slippery, and in some places, flooded, which could slow down traffic.
Weather expert Nick Finnis from Netweather.tv has shared more details about what to expect in the coming days. He explained that a weak band of rain will pass over western areas today, but it will lose strength, meaning most people will enjoy a dry and bright Sunday.
However, more rain will return to northwest Scotland on Monday as a new weather system moves in. On Tuesday morning, another wave of rain will spread across northern and western areas, although it will weaken as it moves toward southeast England and East Anglia later in the day.
Despite the wet start to the week, the second half will bring calmer and drier weather. A cold polar air mass will arrive in the middle of the week, but this time, it will come with clearer skies and more sunshine compared to previous weeks. However, since the nights will be clear, temperatures will drop significantly, leading to widespread frost in many areas.
