Daniel Albertina, a 39-year-old man from Aintree, was arrested after being caught secretly filming a 16-year-old boy using the toilet at an Odeon cinema in Liverpool.

The teenager noticed a mobile phone pointing into his cubicle during a bathroom break and immediately confronted Albertina before alerting cinema staff.

Police were called, and an investigation revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior. Albertina, who worked as a taxi driver for Delta taxis, was identified through his employment records, leading to the seizure of his laptop and two mobile phones.

On these devices, officers found 165 indecent images of children, including footage of a teenage girl showering that Albertina had filmed himself.

They also discovered extreme pornographic images involving animals, such as cows and mice. During police questioning, Albertina admitted to committing voyeurism offenses over six weeks, targeting both young males and females, and confessed to having a long-standing attraction to children.

In court, the teenage victim shared a powerful statement, describing how the incident had deeply affected him. He said he no longer felt safe using public toilets or going to the cinema, activities he once enjoyed regularly.

He described Albertina as a “monster” and expressed how violated he felt, emphasizing that public restrooms should be a private and safe space. Albertina, who had no prior convictions, appeared remorseful in court, often burying his face in his hands as the details of his crimes were revealed.

His defense lawyer argued that Albertina was a man of previous good character who had lived a “secret life” separate from his family, whom he supported through his full-time job. The lawyer claimed Albertina was eager to seek help for his issues and had been brutally honest about his actions, hoping to address his behavior and prevent future offenses.

Despite his remorse, the judge described Albertina’s actions as “disgraceful” and “appalling,” noting that the court was deeply shocked by the severity of his crimes.

Albertina pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including voyeurism, possession and creation of indecent images of children, and possession of extreme pornography.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, given a five-year restraining order, a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, and was required to sign the sex offenders’ register for a decade.

The case highlights the devastating impact of such crimes on victims and the importance of holding offenders accountable while ensuring they receive the necessary help to address their behavior.
