A father and his son who raped a 16-year-old girl have been sentenced to prison. Hugh Mullen, 41, and his son Cameron Mullen, 21, were found guilty of raping the girl multiple times while she was heavily drunk and unable to protect herself.
The attacks happened on April 11, 2023, at a house in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, after they met the girl in Perth city center.
The judge at the High Court in Edinburgh told Hugh Mullen that rape is a very serious crime with long-lasting effects on the victim. He said the girl was young, vulnerable, and too drunk to take care of herself.
The judge also mentioned that the girl went through a terrifying experience and that the crime has had a significant impact on her life. Hugh Mullen showed no regret for his actions.
Both Hugh and Cameron Mullen denied the charges but were found guilty. Hugh Mullen was also found guilty of trying to interfere with the investigation.
He claimed the accusations were “total lies.” His lawyer acknowledged the seriousness of the crime but said Hugh Mullen continues to deny the rape. Hugh has a history of other crimes, like theft and assault, but no prior sexual offenses. He has been added to the sex offenders’ register for life.
Cameron Mullen, who is currently in a young offenders’ institution, will be sentenced in February at the High Court in Glasgow.
