Ex-Labour MP says Keir Starmer Will Resign If Found Guilty of Covid Rule Breach

A former Labour MP has said that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will step down if he is found guilty of breaking Covid rules. This comes after new claims about a meeting he had with a voice coach during lockdown.

Speaking to GB News, Stephen Pound supported the Prime Minister’s character, saying: “Keir Starmer clearly stated that if the police found him guilty and he got an official warning, he would resign. I believe he would do the same now because he is someone who follows the law.”

He added: “From what I know of him, if this is a real breach of the law and he is found guilty, he would definitely think about his position.”

GB News contributor Will Kingston commented: “The voice coach should remove this from her CV quickly because Starmer’s communication is still poor.”

Pound also said: “Apparently, she does some work remotely. How can you coach someone by voicemail? It seems strange.”

The book reveals that the voice coach, Mellinger, went to Labour headquarters on Christmas Eve 2020, wearing a mask, to help Starmer with his response to Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal. At that time, London was under strict Tier 4 ‘Stay at Home’ rules due to a rise in Covid cases linked to a new variant. The coach was considered a ‘key worker’ during the pandemic.

However, there are questions about whether this meeting followed Covid rules, as government guidelines at the time required non-essential workers to stay home.

The Guido Fawkes website suggested this might have broken Covid rules, as a political voice coach wouldn’t be on the list of essential workers.

The Conservatives are asking the Prime Minister for answers. Shadow paymaster general Richard Holden has called for an independent investigation.

In a letter to Starmer, Holden referred to the Prime Minister’s previous claims that he followed all Covid rules. He wrote: “This new information shows that wasn’t true, and you have serious questions to answer.”

Holden asked six specific questions, including whether the meeting broke the law and if Labour got legal advice about making Ms. Mellinger a key worker. He also asked if it would be okay for others to get acting lessons during Tier 4 restrictions.

Holden’s letter accused Starmer of misleading the public and showing “casual disregard for the law” while others made sacrifices during the pandemic.
