People who work closely with the Royal Family have said that King Charles is not expected to take any action against his son Prince Harry or Meghan Markle.
Even though there’s been a lot of tension between the couple and the rest of the Royal Family, the King has always avoided direct conflict. He prefers to keep things calm and not shut any doors completely, in case Harry and Meghan ever decide to return to their royal roles.
He still allows Harry to remain as a Counsellor of State, which means Harry could step in for the King during emergencies. But to avoid relying too much on Harry or Prince Andrew, King Charles has quietly added Princess Anne and Prince Edward to the list of royals who can fill in when needed.
Meanwhile, many royal insiders believe that Prince William may take a firmer approach once he becomes king. They say that while King Charles stays quiet and patient, William may eventually take some action to address the ongoing drama involving Harry and Meghan.
One of the things causing recent tension is Meghan Markle’s use of the title “Her Royal Highness,” or HRH. When she and Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020, they agreed not to use that title. But Meghan has recently been using it again in public, which has upset some people.
A good example is when she sent a gift basket to a businesswoman named Jamie Kern Lima. The basket had homemade jam, organic ice cream, and flowers. It also had a card signed “With the compliments of HRH, The Duchess of Sussex.” Jamie mentioned this in a YouTube video during an interview with Meghan. This caused a stir because Meghan had previously agreed not to use that title, especially for anything that could look like a business promotion.
Meghan’s team has denied that she is using the HRH title for any kind of business or money-making reasons. But this is not the first time in recent weeks she has used the title publicly.
Not long ago, she posted on her Instagram account a message from a Ukrainian government official who addressed her as “Your Royal Highness.” Sharing that message publicly was seen by some royal insiders as a bold and deliberate move, maybe even to make a statement or get attention.
Some sources within the royal circle have compared Harry and Meghan to rebellious teenagers, saying they are constantly testing the limits to see what they can get away with. The feeling among many close to the Royal Family is that Meghan and Harry enjoy pushing boundaries, even though it creates more tension between them and the rest of the royals.
So far, King Charles has chosen not to respond directly to any of this. He continues to leave the door open for his son and daughter-in-law, but many believe Prince William will take a different path when he becomes king, especially if this kind of behavior continues.
