Sadiq Khan lost control of our streets the moment he vowed to scrap the one thing that works – Adam Brooks

Knife crime is getting out of control in the UK, especially in London. Every day, around 50 people are stabbed in the capital alone. That means 50 families receive heartbreaking phone calls some are lucky their loved one survives, but others lose someone forever. Even those who survive are left with lasting pain, both physically and emotionally.
This isn’t just a crime problem anymore. It’s become a serious crisis like an epidemic. Our streets are no longer safe, and the people in charge of this country don’t seem to care enough to do something that actually makes a difference. It’s like they’re more concerned with looking good online than protecting the public who pay their salaries.
The police force has been weakened over the years. Politicians cut funding, put endless rules in place, and got rid of effective methods like stop and search. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, even promised to reduce stop and search when he first came into power. Since then, crime has exploded. Knife attacks, sexual assaults, and mobile phone thefts have gone up dramatically. Yet, nothing serious has been done to stop it.
We were told that stopping suspicious people was “racist.” We were told criminals need support, not punishment. And now what do we have? Young people walking around with huge knives, machetes, and even swords—because they know they’ll likely get away with it. Maybe they’ll just get a warning or a suspended sentence. No prison. No real consequences. So they keep doing it. More stabbings. More deaths.
The justice system is failing. Judges hand out light sentences, and while families are burying their children, politicians sit around in meetings, producing reports and empty promises. Some even suggest that rounding the tips of knives will help. It’s nonsense.
The truth is hard to hear, but it needs to be said: anyone caught carrying a knife should automatically go to prison for at least five years. Not three months. Not just probation. Real prison time. That’s the only way to send a clear message.
We need to make carrying a knife just as unacceptable as drink driving. Everyone should know that if they walk out of their home with a knife, they’re risking their entire future.
We also need real policing back. Proper stop and search everywhere—not based on ticking boxes for race or gender, but based on actual risk and common sense. The people shouting about over-policing don’t live in the areas most affected by violence. It’s working-class communities that are suffering, and they are begging for more police, tougher punishments, and safer neighborhoods. Even former gang members are saying the same thing now.
This isn’t about race. It’s about keeping people safe. It’s about choosing right over wrong. It’s about having the courage to say we’ve had enough.
Every day we delay, another life is lost. Another child bleeds on the pavement. Another family breaks apart. Another neighborhood lives in fear.
People are tired of empty words and weak leadership. We need to take back our streets. We need to protect our children. We need to stand up to both the thugs with knives and the politicians who won’t act.
That’s why the speaker and Norman Brennan have launched a petition calling for a mandatory five-year prison sentence for anyone caught with a knife. No more warnings. No more second chances. If you agree that enough is enough, sign the petition and speak up.
