The tension between King Charles and Prince Harry hasn’t eased, and with a meaningful family moment coming up for Harry, it’s becoming more painful — especially for the King. Royal expert Jennie Bond says the situation is a deep emotional loss for Charles, who is already dealing with cancer.
The real heartbreak is that Harry’s kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, barely know their grandfather. Charles has only met Archie a few times and saw Lilibet once. He’s told friends that video calls just aren’t enough — he wants a real relationship with them.
As Archie’s sixth birthday approaches on May 6, the celebration will likely happen without his royal relatives. Charles, who is known to be a loving grandfather to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, is said to feel the absence of Archie and Lilibet even more now as he goes through cancer treatment. Bond says the King still cares deeply for Harry, once calling him his “darling boy,” and she believes Charles would love nothing more than to spend time with his California-based grandchildren.
It’s not just Charles who is missing out — Prince William, Harry’s older brother, is also estranged from him. They reportedly haven’t spoken in years. Jennie Bond said she once imagined the brothers being close and raising their kids alongside one another. Sadly, that vision has faded. Their children don’t know each other at all, and there’s no sign of that changing.
For Harry, the rift likely weighs heavily. While he’s chosen a new life far from the royal spotlight, he’s also more removed from his family. Jennie hopes that despite all the tension, the King, William, and Catherine will at least acknowledge Archie’s birthday — maybe with a message or gift. She says it wouldn’t be fair for the little boy to be forgotten in all of this.
Meanwhile, the relationship between Harry and his father remains distant. Harry’s calls and letters have reportedly been ignored. Charles seems to be keeping a firm boundary, not wanting to be pulled into a legal dispute Harry has with the UK government over his security arrangements.
This legal battle has made communication even harder. According to Jennie, Harry might not have realized at first how complicated things would get by taking legal action that involved the King’s own government. It’s made their relationship fragile. Once the legal process is over, maybe there’s a chance for things to improve. But as of now, the chances of a family reunion still feel very far off.
