At first, the woman’s sons didn’t believe her when she said she was hearing strange noises.

A woman started getting worried about weird sounds coming from her attic. She had no idea something from her past was hiding up there.

We all sometimes hear strange noises that make us a little nervous. Most of the time, we just blame it on the wind or the house settling and forget about it.

But in 2012, a woman from Rock Hill, South Carolina, couldn’t ignore the sounds anymore. She got suspicious and thought something was seriously wrong.

Her two older sons didn’t take her seriously at first. They even checked the attic but found nothing. She remembered them saying things like, “You’re getting old,” or “You’re just imagining it.”

Still, Tracy, a mother of five, couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. And unfortunately, she was right.

It turned out her ex-boyfriend, who she had broken up with 12 years earlier, had been secretly living in her attic for two weeks after getting out of prison.

She told ABC News that one day, while she was using her laptop in bed, pieces of plaster suddenly fell from the ceiling onto her.

On another night, around 2:30 a.m., she heard movement again and called her family for help. “I kept hearing bumps and thumps,” she said. “I know the sounds of my house—this wasn’t normal.”

Her sons and nephew went up to the attic and checked around the area where the light wasn’t working. That’s when they made a shocking discovery.

They found her ex hiding there. He had been sleeping near the heating system and using cups to go to the bathroom so no one would notice he was there. The smell was terrible.

When they confronted him, he ran off before the police could arrive.

Tracy said she had exchanged letters with him while he was in prison, but she never planned on getting back together. She didn’t even know how he got into the attic, since it could only be reached from inside the house. He had even messed with the vents so he could watch her from above.

“We’re still trying to figure out how he got in,” Tracy said. “I want him charged. I feel violated.”

It’s still unclear if the man was ever caught or faced any charges.
