Woman Watches Boyfriend Kick and Stomp on Her 2-Year-Old Daughter, Leaves Her Dead Wrapped in a Blanket in the Bathroom, Then Goes for a Drink in a Pub as If Nothing Happened
A court in Ipswich heard how a two-year-old girl, Isabella Wheildon, suffered terrible injuries and was left dead for days under a blanket in a shower. The case was described as heartbreaking and shocking.
The child’s mother, Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, was accused of watching the violence happen and doing nothing to stop it. Her partner, Scott Jeff, attacked Isabella, kicking and stomping on her so hard that he caused severe injuries to her body.
Prosecutors explained that Isabella’s head, neck, torso, limbs, and pelvis were badly damaged. These injuries were consistent with brutal physical abuse, including being kicked with force.
Before the abuse began, Isabella was described as a happy, healthy, and well-cared-for child. However, everything changed when her mother, Gleason-Mitchell, started a relationship with Jeff.
The attack happened while the family was staying in a temporary housing unit in Ipswich. The court heard that Isabella died on June 26, 2023, but her body was not found until June 30, when police discovered her hidden under blankets in the shower.
During the trial, the judge revealed more disturbing details. He said that after Isabella died, Gleason-Mitchell and Jeff behaved as if nothing had happened.
They reportedly took Isabella’s body, covered her with a blanket, and pushed her around in a stroller while they went shopping. The judge said they acted as if they were a normal family enjoying a day out. After that, they left Isabella’s body in the bathroom of a hostel where they were staying.
Shockingly, the pair then caught a train to Bury St Edmunds, leaving Isabella behind. Witnesses later saw Gleason-Mitchell sitting in a pub, smiling, laughing, and drinking wine, as if nothing was wrong.
Both were arrested by police early on July 1, 2023. At the trial, Scott Jeff, who is 24 years old, was found guilty of murder. The judge described Jeff’s actions as a “cruel campaign of violence and abuse” that caused Isabella’s death. Jeff was sentenced to life in prison and must serve at least 26 years before he can be considered for release.
Isabella’s mother, Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, was not charged with murder but was found guilty of causing or allowing her child’s death. The court heard how she failed to protect her daughter and stood by while the abuse happened.
The judge told her she had chosen to do nothing to stop the violence. Gleason-Mitchell, who is also 24, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The judge strongly criticized both individuals for their actions and lack of care for Isabella. He made it clear that the toddler’s death was avoidable and that her suffering was the result of serious neglect and abuse.
