Woman horrified after checking dashcam when she left her car to be fixed with mechanic

A 21-year-old Australian woman, Megan Bolton, was left horrified after discovering that her beloved Ford Focus RS had been taken on unauthorized joyrides by a mechanic while it was supposed to be undergoing repairs.

Megan, who had taken out a loan to purchase her dream car, left the vehicle at a local garage to fix a temperature sensor. She was told the part would take several days to arrive, so she left the car over the weekend, expecting to collect it on Monday.

Megan, who described her car as her “pride and joy,” was shocked when she reviewed the dashcam footage after retrieving her vehicle.

The footage revealed that the mechanic, Ross Wye, had taken the car on multiple personal trips, including driving it home, parking it overnight in his driveway, and even taking it through a McDonald’s drive-thru with his child in the car.

The dashcam also recorded the car exceeding speed limits, reaching 71 km/h in a 60 km/h zone and hitting 93 km/h on a backstreet.

Megan expressed her frustration, stating, “It’s a disrespect to the vehicle and myself. You’ve got no reason to even be doing that on a test drive.” She added that she felt betrayed, as she had trusted the mechanic with her prized possession, which she rarely drives and keeps garaged.

When confronted by a news team from *A Current Affair, Ross Wye defended his actions, claiming that driving the car outside of work hours saved Megan labor costs. He also dismissed the dashcam’s speed readings as “uncalibrated GPS” and denied being the sole driver, suggesting that other employees might have used the car.

However, the footage clearly showed him behind the wheel during some of the joyrides.

Megan, who insisted she was never informed that her car would be driven for personal use, said she was left “crying for days” over the incident.

The mechanic eventually apologized for the “misunderstanding,” but the experience left Megan feeling deeply violated and distrustful. She concluded, “I thought I trusted him, I really did. I felt absolutely betrayed.”
