Wolf Blitzer Questions DHS Secretary Mayorkas About Trump’s Call to Shoot Down Mystery Drones

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about a controversial statement from President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump had commented on a recent surge of “mystery drone sightings” over New Jersey, suggesting that the drones should be shot down if the government cannot identify them.

Reports of these unidentified drones have been coming in all week, not just from New Jersey but also from nearby states. The strange sightings have caused confusion and worry among residents.

Some people even feared these drones could be a threat. However, John Kirby, a spokesperson for the Biden administration, explained that the drones are likely just civilian aircraft that are flying legally and not a cause for alarm.

On Friday night, Trump shared his thoughts on his Truth Social platform. He questioned whether the government was unaware of these drones and demanded action.

He wrote that if the government cannot provide information about the drones, they should shoot them down. This sparked even more debate online.

During a live interview on The Situation Room, Blitzer asked Mayorkas to address Trump’s comments.

Blitzer said, “President-elect Donald Trump just said your administration should either release all the information it has about these drones or shoot them out of the sky. What’s your response?”

Mayorkas avoided giving a direct answer to the question. Instead, he repeated what he had said earlier. “We haven’t seen anything out of the ordinary with these drones,” he said. “There’s no sign of a threat.

That said, we’ve been asking Congress for more power to handle drone activity. We’ve also asked for more authority to give local and state officials so they can help manage these situations better.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s original post on the subject has drawn attention for its demanding tone and some grammatical errors.

He wrote, “Mystery drones are being seen all over the country. Is this really happening without our government knowing? I don’t think so! Tell the public now or shoot them down!”

Trump’s comments have added to the ongoing debate about the mystery drones and how the government should respond. While some people agree with Trump’s call for immediate action, others argue that the sightings are not a serious issue and shouldn’t lead to drastic measures like shooting drones out of the sky.

The Biden administration seems to be taking a more cautious approach, emphasizing safety and legal oversight rather than impulsive action.
