Trump Suggests Hockey Star Wayne Gretzky Run for Prime Minister of Canada, Says ‘You’d Win Easily, No Need to Campaign
On Christmas morning, President-elect Donald Trump made headlines again by taking a playful jab at Canada’s leadership. He shared on social media that he had suggested the famous hockey player, Wayne Gretzky, should run for Prime Minister of Canada.
Trump, known for his bold and sometimes controversial remarks, posted a message on Truth Social about a recent conversation he had with Gretzky.
In the post, Trump revealed that during their meeting, he told Gretzky, “Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign.” Although Gretzky didn’t show any interest in the idea, Trump went on to encourage Canadians to start a movement called “DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY.” He said it would be “so much fun to watch!”
Trump also included a personal message in the post, saying, “I just left Wayne Gretzky, ‘The Great One’ as he is known in Ice Hockey circles. I said, ‘Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada – You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign.’
He had no interest, but I think the people of Canada should start a ‘DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement.’ It would be so much fun to watch!”
The comments quickly attracted attention, as Trump’s suggestion was an unusual and lighthearted idea. Even though it was made as a joke, many people found it amusing, especially because Gretzky is considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time.
At the same time, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, was dealing with some challenges in his own government. Recently, Trudeau had a meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach. The meeting followed threats from Trump about raising tariffs on Canadian goods.
