The Heartwarming Moment a Dying Zoo Worker Receives Final Kisses from His Beloved Giraffes (Video)
Four-year-old Mario Ejis spent a big part of his life caring for animals at the Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Even though he was very young, he loved the animals deeply, and they became like family to him.
Every day, he worked hard to make sure their cages were spotless, and they always had enough food and fresh water. Taking care of the animals brought him happiness, and they became his best friends.
But life took a sad turn for Mario. He became very sick and was diagnosed with cancer. This meant he couldn’t continue working at the zoo, and he had to say goodbye to the animals he loved so much.
Leaving them behind was very hard for him because they were such an important part of his life.
As Mario’s illness got worse, he lost the ability to walk and talk clearly. Despite this, he had one final wish: to visit the zoo one last time and say goodbye to the animals that had brought him so much joy.
It was his way of letting them know how much they meant to him.
Thankfully, a special charity called the Ambulance Wish Foundation stepped in to make his dream come true. This organization helps people who are very sick visit special places that are meaningful to them.
They arranged everything to make sure Mario could visit the zoo. They brought him there in a special ambulance designed for people in his condition.
When Mario arrived at the zoo, he was taken to see all the animals he had cared for over the years. It was a beautiful moment for him to reconnect with them.
However, something truly magical happened when he got to the giraffe area. As Mario sat nearby, the giraffes came close to him, one by one, and stretched their long necks out of their enclosure.
They gently kissed him, as if they understood his sadness and pain. It was a touching and unforgettable moment for everyone who witnessed it.
“The animals recognized Mario and seemed to know he wasn’t doing well,” said Kees Veldboer, the founder of the Ambulance Wish Foundation. “It was such a special moment. You could see Mario smiling. He was so happy to be there.”
Mario also got to see the zookeepers and co-workers he had worked with. Being back at the zoo brought him a sense of peace and comfort. It was like coming home to the place he loved most.
The Ambulance Wish Foundation did something truly amazing for Mario. This organization was created to help terminally ill people visit places that mean a lot to them before they pass away.
It started in the Netherlands and has since grown, with about 1,500 volunteers now helping in the UK. What they did for Mario shows how much they care about making people’s last wishes come true.
When Mario’s story spread on social media, many people were deeply moved. They thanked the foundation and the animals for showing such compassion.
One person shared a heartfelt message online: “Animals are truly special. They see and feel things we sometimes can’t.
Their connection to humans is a beautiful gift. Rest in peace, Mario. You were a hero to the animals, and your story will be remembered.”
