Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old man, was arrested for allegedly killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. When the police arrested him, they found a document he wrote, which they called a “manifesto.

In this document, Mangione expressed anger and frustration with the health insurance industry, blaming them for many problems. This arrest and discovery were reported by CNN.

On Thursday, the police shared details about how they tracked Mangione down. They found out he had been staying in a nearby hostel for several days before the shooting.

Security cameras captured him wearing a mask most of the time, but there were moments when he was seen in a hooded jacket with his face visible.

To help find him, the NYPD released pictures of him to the public on Thursday morning, which started a nationwide manhunt.

By Monday, Mangione was identified by a worker at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, who called the police.

When the police arrested him, they found important evidence, including a gun and a suppressor that matched the weapon used in the shooting.

They also discovered several fake IDs, clothing similar to what the suspect wore during the crime, and a handwritten document that gave insight into Mangione’s thoughts and reasons for his actions.

John Miller, a law enforcement analyst for CNN, explained more about the two-page manifesto.

He said Mangione’s writing was filled with anger toward the health insurance industry. Mangione referred to them as “parasites” and claimed they “deserved” what happened.

He started his document by saying he didn’t want to cause emotional harm but believed the attack was necessary.

On the second page, he went into detail about his frustrations with the healthcare system and why he felt violence was needed to make a statement. He wrote phrases like “it had to be done” and “these parasites had it coming.”

Police also learned more about Mangione’s background. He grew up in Towson, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 with a degree in engineering. Later, he earned a master’s degree in engineering.

Over the years, he lived in several places, including Towson, Philadelphia, and most recently, Honolulu, Hawaii.

One of the fake IDs he carried was reportedly used to check into the hostel in New York City where he stayed before the shooting.

In his manifesto, Mangione stated that he planned the attack on his own and used his own money to carry it out. He made it clear that no one else was involved.

Brian Thompson, the 50-year-old CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was shot and killed early on Wednesday morning outside the New York Hilton Midtown.

His company was holding an important investor conference at the hotel. According to reports, the masked suspect approached Thompson and shot him multiple times before running away.

The suspect escaped first on foot and then used an e-bike to flee into Central Park. Investigators believe this was not a random act but a carefully planned attack specifically targeting Thompson.
