Starmer Pressured to Accept 70 MILLION Migrants in Shocking Brexit Betrayal as EU Leaders Make Bold Demand
Neil Oliver has criticized NATO in his latest discussion. Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer is planning to appoint Angus Lapsley as Britain’s ambassador to NATO. This decision has raised concerns because Lapsley once lost top-secret government documents at a bus stop.
Back in 2021, Lapsley misplaced a 50-page classified file containing sensitive information, including the locations of British special forces in Afghanistan and the movements of the Royal Navy near Crimea. Some of the documents were even marked “Secret, UK Eyes Only,” meaning they were not meant to be shared with anyone outside the UK.
Even after this serious security breach, Lapsley was allowed to keep his job in the civil service. In 2022, he was promoted and given an important role at NATO as assistant secretary-general for defence policy and planning. More recently, he has been working on Britain’s strategic defence review. Now, reports say he will soon take over as the UK’s permanent representative to NATO, replacing Sir David Quarrey.
This appointment has caused concern among some defence officials. One senior defence source, who previously worked with Lapsley, said it is “deeply worrying” that the government does not take security more seriously. Lapsley was already being considered for the NATO ambassador role before losing the files, but now, despite the security issue, it looks like he will be given the position within days.
However, officials have not confirmed the decision. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence said Lapsley is still working on the defence review, and there are no current plans for any changes. The Foreign Office also stated that ambassador appointments would be announced officially when the time is right.
In other political news, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has spoken about whether she will release her tax return to the public. Reeves admitted that she didn’t know previous chancellors had shared their tax returns. After some criticism, she changed her position and said she will now publish hers at the same time as the Prime Minister.
When asked whether Kemi Badenoch should do the same, Reeves responded that it was a decision for Badenoch to make. Initially, Reeves had refused to share her tax return when questioned by GB News political editor Christopher Hope. At a recent speech in Oxfordshire, Hope asked if she would release her tax return since millions of people were filing theirs with HMRC. Reeves responded that previous chancellors had not done so and that she had no plans to either.
However, after pressure from the media and the public, a Treasury spokesperson later confirmed that Reeves would now publish her tax return. This decision comes after it was pointed out that former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former Chancellor Jeremy Hunt both made their tax information public while in office.
Even though Reeves has now agreed to release her tax return, Kemi Badenoch has refused to follow suit. She has not commented further on the matter.
