Scientists claim to have discovered evidence of ‘soul’ leaving the body when we die

A recent study has sparked intriguing discussions about what happens when we die, with some scientists suggesting there might be evidence of the “soul” leaving the body.

Researchers examined the brain activity of seven critically ill patients who were moments away from death. Small sensors were placed on their brains to monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and brain activity as they passed away.

The results revealed something unexpected: an electroencephalogram (EEG) detected a strange burst of energy in the brain after the patients had died. Dr. Stuart Hameroff, an anesthesiologist and professor at the University of Arizona, shared his thoughts on the findings.

He explained that this burst of activity occurred even when there was no blood pressure or heart rate, suggesting it could be linked to a near-death experience or even the soul leaving the body.

Dr. Hameroff believes this activity might represent consciousness exiting the body, calling it “the last thing to go” during the dying process.

He noted that this phenomenon has been observed in about 50% of cases where such measurements were taken. While some researchers argue that the bursts of energy could be due to the brain being deprived of oxygen, Dr. Hameroff has a different theory.

He suggests that consciousness might be tied to quantum processes in the brain’s microtubules—tiny structures within brain cells. When the heart stops and blood flow ceases, these microtubules lose their quantum state, but the quantum information they contain isn’t destroyed.

Instead, it dissipates into the universe. If the patient is revived, this information could return to the microtubules, leading to reports of near-death experiences. If the patient dies, the quantum information might continue to exist outside the body, possibly as a “soul.”

The study’s authors emphasized that their findings could provide comfort to grieving families, as the idea that “something” happens at the time of death is often reassuring. While the research is still in its early stages, it opens up fascinating questions about consciousness, life after death, and the nature of the soul.
