Royal fans issue the same complaint as Prince William sits next to Keir Starmer at VE Day

Prince William and Princess Kate delighted royal fans with a surprise appearance at the VE Day 80th anniversary concert, held to commemorate the end of World War II in Europe.

The event was filled with tributes to veterans, powerful performances, and appearances from senior members of the Royal Family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla.

However, not everyone watching from home was happy many viewers were frustrated to see Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer seated right next to Prince William during the earlier Westminster Abbey service.

The service, which took place on Thursday, May 8, brought together Second World War veterans, royalty, political leaders, and members of the public in a solemn remembrance of the day Germany surrendered in 1945, bringing peace to Europe after years of war.

Yet, social media lit up with complaints from royal fans who said that every time the camera showed Prince William, Sir Keir Starmer was also in the frame.

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) jokingly wrote, “Looks like Prince William drew the short straw sitting next to Starmer.” Another posted, “I love our Royal Family, but why on earth is Starmer sat right beside William? He doesn’t even like the monarchy or care about older people it’s ruined the night for me.

A third viewer said they were excited to watch the BBC’s VE Day coverage but were turned off the moment they realized Starmer would be appearing in every camera shot of the prince, complaining that a veteran should have been seated there instead.

Despite the unexpected complaints, the service itself was well-attended by members of the Royal Family. Along with King Charles and Queen Camilla, other royals present included the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent. The day was filled with moments of reflection, gratitude, and pride for those who served.

Later that evening, Prince William and Princess Kate made an appearance at the VE Day concert, surprising many attendees. They were not joined by their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis but their presence still captured the attention and admiration of the public. King Charles also attended the evening celebration and gave a moving speech to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who fought in World War II.

While politics may have distracted some viewers, the day was ultimately a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, remembrance, and honoring the legacy of those who served to protect the freedoms enjoyed today.
