Resign Now! Keir Starmer Told to Quit as Labour Erupts After Humiliating Election Defeat and Farage Surge

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is facing heavy criticism and pressure from within his own party after a crushing defeat in the Runcorn and Helsby by-election. Many Labour MPs are blaming the loss on his failure to connect with working-class voters. One senior MP warned that if Starmer doesn’t make major changes soon, the Labour Party could fall apart.
Dan Carden, MP for Liverpool Walton, said many ordinary people feel ignored and left behind by Labour. He believes that voters no longer see the party as fighting for their interests. According to him, people are fed up and view the current political system as broken, with leaders in Westminster feeling distant and out of touch.
Anger within Labour grew even more after the government decided to scrap winter fuel payments for over ten million pensioners—a move that some MPs are calling Labour’s version of the “Poll Tax,” referencing a hugely unpopular policy that damaged the Conservative government in the 1990s.
Adding to the pressure, a new poll suggests many voters now believe Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, could become the next Prime Minister. The survey showed 63% of people think Farage could win the next general election, while only 31% think Starmer can.
Labour backbenchers say the party is losing touch with its roots and lacks strong leadership. Jo White, another Labour MP and chair of the Red Wall group, said Labour can’t just say “we’re listening” and expect voters to come back. She said it’s time for the party to hit the reset button and for Starmer to take bold action. She even suggested he learn from Donald Trump by following his gut and taking quick, direct action.
The message from within the party is clear: if Labour wants to win back voters and have a real chance in the next election, Starmer must act now and show he’s a leader who understands and represents the people.
