Putin ‘immediately breaks Easter truce’ launching hundreds of savage attacks in Ukraine

Vladimir Putin announced what he called an Easter ceasefire, saying it would start at 6pm and last through the Christian holiday. But Ukraine says that almost immediately after the announcement, Russian forces began attacking again, breaking the promise of peace.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, between 6pm and midnight on April 19, Russia fired on Ukrainian troops 387 times. They also launched 19 ground attacks and used drones 290 times to target different areas. Zelensky said this clearly shows that Russia didn’t respect the agreement and continued to carry out military actions.

Zelensky explained that although Russia claimed to be observing a ceasefire, they were still carrying out attacks in some regions. He said Russia is trying to make it seem like they’re keeping the peace, but in reality, they are still trying to gain ground and harm Ukrainian forces. He urged Russia to completely follow the rules of the ceasefire and stop all fighting if they are serious about peace.

He also mentioned that Ukraine is still willing to agree to a full 30-day ceasefire starting from midnight on Easter Monday. But he made it clear that Ukraine will respond based on how Russia acts. If Russia continues fighting, Ukraine will defend itself. If Russia truly stops, then Ukraine will do the same.
