Police have addressed concerns about men loitering outside Deanshanger Primary School, describing it as a “cultural issue” and pledging to educate migrants on appropriate behavior.
Reports from residents claimed men were seen near the school during drop-off and pick-up times, with some parents expressing fears about safety.
The men in question are asylum seekers staying at a nearby hotel, which has been used to house migrants for the past three years.
Despite these concerns, Northamptonshire Police stated that no crimes or risks had been identified after investigating complaints and visiting the hotel. They emphasized that most reports were based on social media posts rather than direct observations.
Sgt Lorna Clarke reassured residents, confirming that police patrols in the area have increased and officers remain in contact with the school. She urged people to report incidents to the police rather than taking matters into their own hands.
Parents and residents shared mixed reactions. Some temporarily removed their children from school or altered their routines out of caution, while others noted issues like littering near the village green. Police reiterated that no evidence of criminal activity had been found, and their presence around the school is precautionary.
The migrants, some of whom spoke to reporters, expressed their desire to live safely in the UK. Police continue to monitor the situation, emphasizing community safety and fostering understanding of cultural norms.
