A Man Who Died for 28 Minutes Shares What He Saw on the Other Side
Dannion Brinkley’s life changed forever in 1975 when a freak lightning strike sent him on a journey beyond death and back again. The former Marine was talking on the phone when lightning hit a nearby pole, sending a surge of electricity through the line and straight into his body.
“I saw the ceiling, then I was slammed back down,” he recalled. “I was on fire, paralyzed then suddenly, I was floating above my own body.”
For 28 minutes, Brinkley was clinically dead. Paramedics loaded his lifeless body into an ambulance, but he claims his consciousness stayed behind, watching everything from above. He describes traveling through a tunnel toward a radiant “Crystal City,” where a being of light showed him a panoramic replay of his entire life every moment, every choice, all at once.
The most haunting question he was asked: “In the life you just reviewed, what difference did you and God make?”
Miraculously, Brinkley woke up—in the morgue. But this wasn’t his only brush with death. In 1989, during open-heart surgery, he says he returned to that same celestial place and was given “psychic and spiritual gifts” to help others. A third near-death experience during brain surgery only deepened his belief: “You don’t really die. You’re a spiritual being.”
Skeptics dismiss his story, but Brinkley has spent decades as a hospice volunteer, comforting dying patients especially veteranswith his message: “There’s no hell waiting. Only love.” His book, Saved by the Light, shares his incredible journey, proving that sometimes, truth really is stranger than fiction.
Would you believe him? After dying three times, he’s certain of one thing—death isn’t the end.
