Man who suspected wife was trying to poison him swapped meals with son and set up cameras to prove it

Imagine suspecting that the person you’ve been married to for over 40 years is trying to poison you. That’s exactly what Robert Knapinski, a 64-year-old man from Perth, Australia, went through.

For years, he had been suffering from mysterious illnesses, including stomach pains, dizziness, and other symptoms that would mysteriously disappear whenever he went on holiday without his wife, Bozena. This made him suspicious that she might be behind his health problems.

To find out the truth, Robert set up a plan. He swapped his meals with his son’s while his wife was watching, to see how she would react. He also installed hidden cameras around their home.

What he discovered was shocking. The cameras caught Bozena pouring dangerously high levels of selenium into his drinking water. Selenium is sold as a health supplement in Australia, but in large amounts, it can be toxic, causing serious health issues like vomiting, cardiac failure, and even death.

Robert managed to avoid drinking the poisoned water and hid 13 bottles of it, which he later handed over to the police for testing. The tests revealed that the selenium levels in the water were 140 to 1,100 times higher than what’s considered safe in Australia.

In April 2023, Bozena was arrested and charged with six counts of intent to harm and endangering life. She has pleaded not guilty and is currently on trial at the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Bozena claims she was only trying to help her husband feel better and improve their marriage. Her lawyer, Michael Tudori, argued that Robert is a hypochondriac who constantly complained about health issues and that Bozena was simply trying to make him “more vibrant.

He also pointed out that Bozena often worked two jobs and did most of the housework, while Robert had been out of work for 40 years due to a back injury he couldn’t fully explain.

However, Robert believes Bozena’s actions were motivated by anger over an affair he had during a seven-month separation in 2021. He claims she said she would “forgive but not forget” the affair.

During the trial, Robert explained that he swapped meals with his son to test Bozena’s reaction, saying, “If she poisoned something, she would react.”

The case has revealed a deeply troubled marriage. State prosecutor Brett Tooker described their relationship as “very unhealthy” over the years. Meanwhile, Bozena’s lawyer insists she never meant to harm her husband and that Robert’s health issues were exaggerated.

The trial continues, as the court tries to uncover the truth behind this disturbing case of suspected poisoning. For now, Robert is left grappling with the terrifying realization that the person he once trusted most may have been trying to harm him.
