A former Trump insider has sharply criticized President Donald Trump, accusing him of turning his back on the people who believed in his “Make America Great Again” message.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she now believes the MAGA movement was never what it claimed to be. Speaking with YouTube host Kim Iversen, Greene said many supporters are waking up to what she called a harsh truth. In her words, MAGA was “all a lie” and a false promise sold to ordinary people.
Greene argued that the Trump administration has focused less on helping everyday Americans and more on pleasing wealthy donors. She claimed big corporations and even foreign interests pour money into Trump’s political action committees and personal projects, including things like his planned White House ballroom. According to her, those donors are the ones who receive special treatment in return. She said they get government contracts, political favors, and even presidential pardons for themselves or people close to them.
She made it clear she does not accept the common excuse that Trump is being misled by advisers or staff. Greene said people often try to blame everyone around him, but at some point, she believes the responsibility falls squarely on Trump himself. In her view, this is not a mistake made by others — this is who he is.
Greene said this realization was painful because she once truly believed in MAGA. She reminded viewers that she wasn’t just a quiet supporter; she stood by Trump publicly, appeared at rallies, and defended him loudly. When Trump talked about “America First,” she said she was fully on board. She believed U.S. tax money should stay in the country and not be spent overseas.
She also said she strongly opposes foreign military interventions and regime-change efforts in places like the Middle East, Venezuela, and Ukraine. For her, those conflicts are not the priority. She said her concern has always been America and the problems people face at home.
Greene said what worries her most is the future for young Americans, including her own children in Generation Z. She said many of them may never be able to afford basic things like buying a home. Health insurance and car insurance are already out of reach for many, she added, and artificial intelligence is threatening to replace huge numbers of jobs. She said these are real, everyday fears that politicians should be focused on, but are being ignored.
After Trump returned to power, Greene said MAGA stopped being about America altogether and instead became about whatever country Trump chose to focus on at any given moment. She pointed to Trump’s threats toward Iran as an example and questioned why attention is being pulled overseas while serious problems are unfolding at home. She mentioned unrest in Minnesota and asked why leaders aren’t prioritizing issues like that instead.
Greene also took aim at Fox News, a network where she once appeared regularly. She criticized both the channel and its audience, saying many older viewers keep it on all day at high volume and absorb everything it says without question. She described baby boomers — including her parents’ generation — as heavily influenced by nonstop TV propaganda, saying they are constantly being fed the same messages and accepting them without challenge.
She went on to say that this dynamic may not last forever. Greene suggested that younger generations are not as easily manipulated and are less willing to blindly accept political messaging. She questioned how the political system will continue to control public opinion when people are no longer buying into it the way they once did.
For years, Greene was known as a far-right firebrand, closely aligned with Trump and often promoting conspiracy theories. Their relationship reportedly began to fracture over her repeated demands to release government files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender who was once friendly with Trump. Although Trump had previously promised to make those files public, he later appeared to back away from that pledge and reportedly worked behind the scenes to keep them sealed, even calling the controversy a “Democrat hoax.”
Greene’s comments mark a dramatic break from her past loyalty and highlight growing cracks within the movement she once fiercely defended.
