On the night before Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding in 1981, Charles sent Diana a thoughtful gift and a sweet message.

He gave her a special signet ring with the Prince of Wales feathers on it, along with a card that said, “I’m so proud of you and when you come up I’ll be there at the altar for you tomorrow.

Just look ’em in the eye and knock ’em dead.”* Diana cherished the ring and wore it on several occasions, including when she switched on the Regent Street Christmas lights later that year. Charles also often wears a similar ring with the Prince of Wales crest.

Their wedding on July 29, 1981, was one of the most famous events of the century. It took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and was watched by 750 million people around the world.

Diana later shared how she felt that day, saying, “I remember being so in love with my husband that I couldn’t take my eyes off him.”*She added, “I just absolutely thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. He was going to look after me.”* Her wedding dress was a stunning creation made of ivory silk taffeta, with a 25-foot-long train, and it took three months to make.

There’s also a fun story about Diana’s wedding bouquet. Florist David Longman explained that royal brides now have two identical bouquets made for their weddings. This tradition started because Queen Elizabeth II lost her bouquet on her own wedding day.

To make sure Diana didn’t have the same problem, Longman and his team created two bouquets for her. The first one was delivered to Buckingham Palace at 8 a.m., escorted by police, and the second was delivered later. Diana’s bouquet was a beautiful mix of flowers, including gardenias, stephanotis, orchids, lily of the valley, roses, freesia, ivy, myrtle, and more.

The wedding was a grand and unforgettable event, filled with love and tradition, and it remains one of the most iconic moments in royal history.
