Keir Starmer Slams Putin: ‘Stop Playing Games’ as Ukraine Ceasefire Hangs in the Balance!

20views

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to “stop your delaying games” after Putin dismissed a ceasefire proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump. Starmer accused Putin of not being serious about peace, stating that the Kremlin’s rejection of Trump’s deal demonstrates its unwillingness to engage in meaningful negotiations. He warned that if Russia does not come to the table, the international community must increase economic pressure to force an end to the war.

Starmer is set to host a video call with around 25 members of the “coalition of the willing”—countries supporting a peacekeeping plan for Ukraine. During the call, nations will update each other on the aid they are prepared to provide to Ukraine. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for action, not “empty words” or “pointless conditions,” urging Putin to agree to an immediate ceasefire and halt the ongoing attacks on Ukraine.

Putin has repeatedly rejected peace proposals from the US and Ukraine, insisting that any deal must include Ukraine abandoning its bid to join NATO and ceding control of Russian-occupied territories. Starmer dismissed these demands as delaying tactics, arguing that the world needs to see concrete steps toward peace rather than further studies or negotiations.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Putin of using delays to advance Russian military operations on the front lines. Trump, however, claimed he was “getting pretty good vibes” from Russia regarding the ceasefire and said he had asked Moscow to spare the lives of Ukrainian soldiers reportedly surrounded in Russia’s Kursk region. The Kremlin has denied these claims, stating that Russian troops have made significant advances and are offering Ukrainian soldiers the chance to surrender with “guaranteed life and dignified treatment.”

The G7 foreign ministers, meeting in Canada, released a joint statement reaffirming their support for Ukrainian sovereignty and calling for an unconditional ceasefire. Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized the unity of G7 allies in pushing for peace. However, Trump warned that failure to secure a ceasefire could lead to World War III, describing it as “a war like no other” due to the potential use of nuclear weapons.

As tensions escalate, Starmer’s call for international cooperation and increased pressure on Russia highlights the challenges of achieving a lasting peace in the region. The situation remains volatile, with both sides entrenched in their positions and the risk of further conflict looming.
