Keir Starmer Pressure to RESIGN After Furious GB News Clash Over Early Release Killing

A barrister has demanded Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation following a fatal attack committed by a prisoner released early under government measures to ease prison overcrowding.

Steven Barrett told GB News that Starmer bears “direct responsibility” for the death of 26-year-old Lewis Bell, who was stabbed hours after his attacker’s release from HMP Holme House in September.

The attacker, Liam Matthews – previously jailed for violent disorder – was convicted of manslaughter alongside two others in what the court described as a brutal, drug-related killing.

Barrett dismissed claims that prison capacity issues justified early releases, arguing emergency prison spaces could have been created instead. “If we held a prime minister accountable for lockdown parties he didn’t attend, this PM must answer for a death,” he said.

The Ministry of Justice defended the early release program as necessary to prevent total prison system collapse, warning that without action police might have been forced to stop arrests.

Officials confirmed the case would be investigated as a “serious further offence.” Meanwhile, Bell’s family mourned their “much-loved father, son, brother and uncle” as the three attackers await sentencing next month.

The tragedy has intensified debate about public safety risks from early prisoner releases, with projections showing prisons could reach full capacity again within two years. Critics argue the policy endangers communities, while the government maintains it was the only option to avert complete system failure.
