Jonathan Reynolds’ ‘Apology’ Over ‘CV Lies’ Slammed as Nigel Farage Threatens Private Prosecution

14views

Two investigations have been started by the legal watchdog into Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds’s claims that he is a fully qualified solicitor. Reynolds has been accused of lying about his qualifications and has given a hesitant apology. He never actually qualified as a solicitor but has mentioned his supposed experience as one in social media posts and during a speech in Parliament.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is looking into how Reynolds described himself as a solicitor on LinkedIn, his personal website, and in Parliament. Reynolds told The Daily Mail that he didn’t think his claims were a big deal but apologized if anyone misunderstood him. He said the claims were made over a decade ago in a speech and a social media post.

Meanwhile, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has promised to start a private investigation into Reynolds, accusing him of falsely claiming to be a solicitor, which he says is a criminal offense.

This issue comes after concerns were raised about the resumes of other politicians, including Rachel Reeves and Angela Rayner. Reynolds has confirmed that the SRA contacted him following complaints but has not yet launched an official investigation. Reynolds said he doesn’t believe anyone thought he was secretly working as a solicitor and criticized the attacks as a distraction from government work.

Reynolds has apologized to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who accepted his apology. Questions about Reeves’s resume involve her time at the Bank of England and her expenses while working at Halifax Bank of Scotland. Rayner has also faced criticism for inconsistencies in her CV about her time as a carer.
