ITV Grantchester’s Robson Green Defended by Co-Star After Being Called a Harsh Name

Grantchester star Kacey Ainsworth quickly defended her co-star Robson Green after he was described as “high maintenance.” The popular ITV drama has returned for its ninth season, once again bringing viewers to the charming Cambridgeshire village where the show is set.

The latest season began with a major change, as the beloved character Will Davenport, played by Tom Brittney, made his exit. At the same time, Rishi Nair joined the cast as the new vicar, Alphy Kotteram.

During an appearance on BBC’s The One Show on Tuesday, January 4, Kacey Ainsworth, who plays Cathy Keating, spoke about the advice Rishi Nair was given before working with Robson Green, who plays Detective Inspector Geordie Keating.

Host Lauren Laverne mentioned the long line of actors who have played the reverend on the show and brought up the guidance given to Rishi before he joined the cast. Kacey laughed as she recalled the advice, saying that he was told to laugh at all of Robson Green’s jokes as if hearing them for the first time.

She added that making sure Robson has a cup of coffee in the morning is also important. Lauren joked that Robson was sounding a bit high maintenance, but Kacey immediately defended him. She laughed but insisted, “No, no, he’s not. He definitely isn’t. He is absolutely brilliant.”

Kacey also praised him for his support behind the scenes, noting that as one of the executive producers, he encouraged her writing contributions to the show. She described him as “fantastic, after a coffee.”

Meanwhile, Robson Green recently opened up about the emotional farewell to his co-star Tom Brittney. Speaking on ITV’s This Morning, he shared how difficult it was to film Tom’s final scenes.

He explained that one of the reasons Grantchester has been so successful is because of the strong collaboration among the cast and crew. He proudly pointed out that on the previous Wednesday, more people in the UK had watched Grantchester than any other TV show at 9 PM.

Talking about Tom Brittney’s departure, Robson admitted it was painful but significant. He said, “You’re saying goodbye to someone you love and a journey that you loved going on. That was tough. The whole team was saying goodbye to Tom.”

Although it was an emotional moment, Robson reassured fans that their friendship remains strong. He shared that Tom is now filming in Thailand, but despite moving on to new projects, their bond and the laughter and joy they shared on set will always remain.
