“He Is Skilled in Survival”: Children Cry for Help After Father Disappears at Oregon Beach While Photographing High Tides
A search is underway for a father who disappeared after heading to an Oregon beach to take photos of high tides.
Joseph Neill, an experienced outdoorsman, left his home on Sunday, Dec. 15, to photograph the “King Tides” at Horsefall Beach. However, he never returned, prompting his family to report him missing.
Neill’s children shared their concerns on Facebook, explaining that their father is skilled in survival techniques. “Papa is a survivalist and could make anything to help him in a tough situation if needed,” they wrote.
On the morning of Monday, Dec. 16, Joseph’s car was found parked along Transpacific Parkway, near a well-known area called Jordan Point. After finding the vehicle, local police brought in a K9 team to search for Neill, but they were unable to locate him. Authorities believe he had already left the area.
The search wasn’t easy. It took place on private land, which is filled with dangerous terrain. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office warned the public not to enter the property without permission, as it could be risky.
The Coast Guard also joined the search but later called off their efforts, as evidence suggested Neill may have moved elsewhere.
His children believe he may have been exploring areas inland to photograph reflections of the full moon with the high tides or walking along the shoreline near Horsefall Beach.
“My dad means the world to us,” his children said. “We’re asking everyone to please share this as much as possible. Let’s find Joe!”
The family remains hopeful, and the community is being urged to spread the word to help locate Joseph Neill, a father who is deeply loved and missed.
