Harry and Meghan Markle are losing staff because of strict orders. Meghan gave too many demands, which left her assistant in tears
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing renewed scrutiny following a series of high-profile staff departures from Sentebale, the charity Harry co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.
Concerns are growing over their ability to maintain stable leadership across their various projects, as 21 prominent employees have reportedly left roles connected to the Sussexes in recent years.
The most notable departure is Sentebale’s Chief Executive, Richard Miller, who is stepping down after five years. Rather than hiring a direct replacement, Sentebale has appointed Carmel Gaillard as an interim executive director to lead a strategic transformation.
Based in Johannesburg, Gaillard’s appointment signals a shift toward a localized leadership model. Miller expressed confidence in the decision, stating, “This is the logical next step for Sentebale. Carmel is an incredible asset to position Sentebale as a leader in the region.”
Miller’s resignation is part of a broader wave of leadership changes within Sentebale. Baroness Chalker, a long-standing trustee and former overseas development minister, stepped down after 18 years with the charity. While leaving her official role, Chalker reaffirmed her commitment to the charity and Prince Harry.
Additionally, Andrew Tucker, a close ally of Prince Harry known affectionately as “Tucks,” also resigned after over a decade with Sentebale. The departure of these three key figures has created a significant leadership gap and raised questions about the charity’s stability.
Beyond Sentebale, Meghan Markle has also faced challenges retaining staff. One of the most high-profile resignations came from Meghan’s personal assistant, Melissa Toubati, who left after just six months.
Reports suggested Toubati experienced a highly stressful work environment, with insiders claiming Meghan placed excessive demands on her. “Her job was highly pressurized, and in the end, it became too much. Meghan put a lot of demands on her, and it ended up with her in tears,” one source said.
These departures have fueled speculation about the challenges faced by the Sussexes in managing their initiatives and teams. While Sentebale has emphasized the positive shift toward local leadership, the ongoing staff turnover has sparked concerns about their projects’ long-term sustainability and effectiveness.
