Grieving son, 53, faces losing his home after being told to leave following his mother’s death.

Neville Pass has lived in his Shrewsbury home for nearly 50 years, but now he has to leave after his mother’s sad passing. He has lived in the house with his mother, Doreen Pass, for 53 years.

After his mother died in June at the age of 83, Neville, who had been her full-time carer for the last three years, is now being forced out of the house. Housing Plus, the housing association, told him he had to move because the three-bedroom house is too big for him now that he is no longer a carer.

Neville, 53, is upset and says the housing association was heartless for making him leave his childhood home, especially since he doesn’t have much money after being a full-time carer. He had to throw away all his mother’s belongings because the house needed to be emptied.

He has asked the council for help, but they told him that because he is not disabled, it’s unlikely they can find him another home. Neville is still paying rent but is struggling to afford heating.

He says that being a carer is hard and that people like him save the NHS a lot of money, but now he feels unappreciated. He hopes that changes can be made to help carers adjust to life after their caring duties end, instead of just being told to leave their homes.

The housing association, Housing Plus, says they are trying to help Neville find a new home, but they need to use the housing they have for families in need of larger properties, as there is high demand in the area.
