GB News halted for ‘unprecedented’ breaking migrant news in huge blow to Starmer

GB News interrupted its regular programming this morning with an urgent breaking news announcement, revealing that at least 150 migrants had crossed the English Channel illegally. This marks the 10th consecutive day of small boat crossings, bringing the total number of illegal migrant arrivals in March 2025 to more than 2,200—a record-breaking figure that has plunged Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s border security policy into crisis.

Ellie Costello and Nana Akua, filling in for Eamonn Holmes, delivered the news during the morning broadcast. Ellie stated: “At least 150 migrants have crossed the Channel illegally this morning. It’s an unprecedented 10th day of small boat crossings.” Nana added: “So it takes the total of crossings since the first of March to more than 2,200.”

The presenters also noted that a third small boat was spotted making its way toward British waters, with Border Force vessels preparing to intercept it upon arrival. GB News Home and Security Editor Mark White provided further details, explaining that the first two boats had crossed earlier in the morning, carrying around 120 migrants. He described the situation as a “deepening crisis” for the government’s border security policy.

Despite challenging weather conditions in the Channel, which typically deter crossings at this time of year, migrant boats have continued to make the perilous journey. Mark White highlighted the role of criminal smuggling networks, which have been pushing out boats in increasing numbers. “Keir Starmer has made a central plan of his border policy smashing the gangs, a law and order approach to try to dismantle those criminal networks,” he said. However, the ongoing crossings suggest that these efforts have yet to yield significant results.

The surge in migrant crossings has put immense pressure on the Labour government, which has faced criticism for its handling of the crisis. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s pledge to tackle people-smuggling gangs and secure the UK’s borders has come under scrutiny as the numbers continue to rise. The unprecedented 10-day streak of crossings has sparked calls for more robust action, with critics arguing that the current policies are failing to deter illegal migration.

As the third boat approaches UK waters, Border Force vessels are on standby to intercept and bring the migrants to Dover Harbour. The government is expected to face further questions about its strategy to address the crisis, particularly as weather conditions improve and the risk of more crossings increases.

The situation remains fluid, with GB News and other outlets providing live updates as the story develops. For now, the Channel migrant crisis shows no signs of abating, leaving the government scrambling to find a solution that balances security, humanitarian concerns, and international obligations.
