Donald Trump gave a press conference today, standing next to his health chief, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The main topic was his plan to cut the price of prescription drugs by 59%, but people online were more focused on how he looked than what he said.
Many social media users noticed that Trump looked more orange than usual, and some even joked that he looked like a pumpkin. One person on X (formerly Twitter) said, “Trump looks especially orange this morning. He is not well.” Others made similar comments, pointing out how strangely orange his skin appeared on TV.
Still, Trump made it clear that he plans to sign a new executive order called “most favoured nation” pricing, also known as international reference pricing. This would force U.S. drug companies to sell medicine at prices closer to what other countries pay. According to Reuters, Americans pay some of the highest prices for prescription drugs—almost three times more than people in other developed countries. After Trump made his announcement, the stock prices of several major U.S. drug companies dropped by 2% to 3%.
In the middle of all this, it was also reported that Trump is heading to the UK. His private plane, Air Force One, is expected to land at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk to refuel. That stop will happen either late Monday or early Tuesday before he continues on to the Middle East for an official visit.
At the same time, Trump has come under fire for reportedly accepting a luxurious gift from the royal family of Qatar. Sources say they plan to give him a £300 million private jet, described as a “palace in the sky.” Critics are calling this gift a sign of bribery and corruption. The handover of the plane is expected to be made public during Trump’s visit to Qatar.
Some lawmakers are not happy about it. Jamie Raskin, a Democratic Representative from Maryland and a former law professor, posted on social media that Trump isn’t allowed to accept gifts like this from foreign countries without approval from Congress. He reminded the public that the U.S. Constitution clearly says a president must get permission before accepting any present from a foreign state.
So, while Trump is trying to focus on lowering drug prices, he’s also being criticized for his appearance, his travel plans, and a massive gift that could raise serious legal and ethical questions.
