Donald Trump has taken legal action against CBS and its parent company, Paramount Global, accusing them of misleading the public just before the 2024 presidential election.
His complaint is about a televised interview with Kamala Harris that aired on the popular news show 60 Minutes. Trump believes the interview was edited in a way that made Harris look better and helped the Democratic Party during a critical time when people were casting their votes.
He says that during the interview, Harris gave a response to a question that he believes was damaging to her image and could have cost her votes. But according to Trump, CBS edited out that original answer and replaced it with a different one that she gave in response to another question. He claims this switch was done on purpose to protect her reputation and influence the election outcome. He sees this as cheating and a serious betrayal of public trust.
Trump posted a long message on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling the lawsuit a big win and accusing CBS and *60 Minutes* of lying to the American people. He said their actions were not only unfair but also illegal, and he believes this type of media behavior has never happened before on this scale in politics. He also mentioned that CBS, by doing this, committed fraud against not only voters but also major institutions like the Federal Elections Commission.
In response, CBS and Paramount say they did nothing wrong. They claim the interview was not misleading or edited in a dishonest way. According to them, editing interviews is a normal part of producing a show. They said they included a shorter version of Harris’s response on 60 Minutes but used a longer version on another program, Face the Nation. They explained that this is a common practice to fit different time limits for various shows, and that both versions came from the same answer to the same question.
Trump, however, doesn’t accept this explanation. He insists that CBS and its corporate owners knew what they were doing and acted intentionally to help the Democrats. He believes this kind of media interference in elections is extremely dangerous and must be punished.
He even suggested that The New York Times might be legally responsible for defending CBS and downplaying the seriousness of the situation.
Trump ended his message by saying that this isn’t just about one interview — it’s about stopping big media companies from manipulating what people see and hear during elections. He believes what happened is one of the worst things ever done in broadcast news, and he’s determined to hold everyone involved accountable.
