Donald Trump Appears to Suffer Memory Lapse After Making a Shocking Statement That Got Everyone Talking

Political analyst and Fox News host Brit Hume said he was confused by former President Donald Trump’s latest comments about the war in Ukraine. Trump claimed it’s been harder to make a peace deal with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky than with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Hume was speaking on Fox News’ *Special Report* on Wednesday. During the segment, host Bret Baier brought up a post from Trump on Truth Social. In the post, Trump said Zelensky “has no cards to play” when dealing with Putin, meaning he believes Ukraine has no power or advantage in the situation.
The show then played a clip of Trump speaking, where he said, “I think we have a deal with Russia. We have to get a deal with Zelensky. I thought Zelensky might be easier to deal with. So far, it’s been harder.” Trump claimed he was close to ending the war and wrote online that Ukraine and Russia should quickly agree to a deal to avoid further damage.
However, Brit Hume said he didn’t understand what Trump meant. “He keeps saying it’s harder to deal with Zelensky than Putin,” Hume explained. “But from what I can see, Putin hasn’t agreed to anything. In fact, he’s still trying to take more land like Crimea. That’s not a peace deal—that’s just gaining territory.”
Crimea is a part of Ukraine that Russia took control of in 2014. Zelensky and the Ukrainian government say Crimea still belongs to Ukraine, and they don’t want to give it up. This is one reason why peace talks between the two countries have been difficult.
Trump also criticized Zelensky again on Wednesday, saying Ukraine should have fought harder for Crimea years ago. He warned that Ukraine could collapse if peace talks fail.
Trump also attacked Zelensky’s recent statement that Ukraine “will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea.” Trump claimed this kind of language makes peace talks harder and said the issue of Crimea shouldn’t even be discussed because it was “lost years ago” when Barack Obama was president.
Trump wrote, “There’s nothing to talk about here. This kind of statement is very harmful to peace talks with Russia.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also criticized Zelensky. She said Zelensky is “trying to handle peace talks through the media” instead of behind closed doors. She added that President Trump and his team have spent a lot of time and effort trying to end the war. She also said that American taxpayers have already spent billions of dollars supporting Ukraine, and the president is losing patience.
